Beginner Quilting Classes

This is a series of beginner quilting classes that will teach three foundation skills that are necessary in any quilt pattern. These skills (cutting, pressing and sewing) will be introduced and reviewed in each of the classes.

Over the first three classes, three basic shapes are introduced which are the primary shapes in the majority of quilt patterns. By learning these techniques for creating the different shapes, the student’s ability to successfully create block units to size is significantly improved. In the last two classes, the students will assemble the quilt and finish off with binding.

Each class requires common sewing supplies such as scissors, thread, seam ripper, pins etc. and a sewing machine in good working order that the student knows how to operate.

Material List will be provided upon sign up.

Techniques that will be covered are:

Rotary Cutting – Proper and safe use of rotary cutters, rulers and mats. Cross grain vs with the grain cutting. Material preparation.
